We offer 100% UV protection with or without tinted lenses!

Our lenses provide 100% UV-A, UV-B and UV-C protection up to 400 nanometers, regardless of the level of tinting (even with clear lenses)! Our HLT® lenses guarantee the highest level of protection against UV rays and visual acuity without distortions or inaccurate image formation. Our high-quality lenses are subject to regular testing by certified testing agencies as well as continuous in-house testing.

Protection against UV-radiation

In addition to the light visible to the human eye, sunlight also contains invisible, harmful ultraviolet (UV) light. Protecting your eyes from the sun involves more than just the attenuation and tinting of visible light, but also protection against ultraviolet radiation. Ultraviolet radiation may be invisible, but when experienced in high intensity or for long periods, it can lead to painful inflammation of the conjunctiva and cornea which can also cause permanent damage.

Just as visible light is divided into the different colors of the spectrum, UV radiation is divided into three kinds:

UV-C radiation: is almost completely absorbed by the earth's atmosphere (wavelength: 100–280 nm)

UV-B radiation:is somewhat weakened by the earth's atmosphere (wavelength: 280–315 nm)

UV-A radiation:is allowed through the earth's atmosphere like visible light. (wavelength: 315-380 nm)

UV light is an invisible form of radiation that impinges on the retina of the eye. When experienced with greater intensity or with prolonged exposure, UV light can lead to eye irritation, cataracts and even blindness. The lenses in our sunglasses and sports, biker or motorcycle eyewear offer maximum UV protection and block 100% of all harmful UV rays (UV-A, -B and -C) up to 400 nanometers.

UV light is also present when the sky is overcast. The ultraviolet radiation (not visible to the naked eye) can be as dangerous to the human eye as direct sunlight, even on the cloudiest of days. This is why our clear, orange and xenolit® lenses come with a protective UV filter.

What influence do clouds on UV radiation?

UV radiation on cloudy days is often as high as on cloudless days! The same applies to hazy, misty and foggy conditions. The sun may appear to be hidden, but the UV radiation is still passing through! Even with heavy cloud cover or in full-on storm conditions, only a part of the harmful UV radiation is eliminated.
